In support of Nepal and the IAPB’s 2030 IN SIGHT LIVE Conference in Kathmandu this spring, our Nepal and Tibet Campaign launched on March 15, 2025, and has made an incredible impact generating over 290,000 clicks, reaching 6.4 million people, and earning more than 40 million impressions in just eight short weeks. Francophone Campaign Update |
Our year-long Francophone Campaign is showing strong results across the region. Together, our mini-Africa campaigns in both French and English have already generated 1.3 million clicks, reached over 22.3 million people, and delivered over 73.3 million impressions. GAF Eye Foundation: We’re proud to partner with GAF Eye Health Foundation, an NGO in Eastern Uganda dedicated to preventing blindness and expanding access to eye care; with support from KnowTheGlow, the Foundation recently led a powerful retinoblastoma training at Butiru Chrisco Hospital in Manafwa, educating 56 healthcare workers on early detection and treatment of this life-threatening childhood eye cancer—a vital step in saving sight and lives. Dr. Andrew Blaikie |
We’re thrilled to share that Dr. Andrew Blaikie, Clinical Lead for the Arclight Project and advocate for accessible eye care, has been elected to the IAPB Board of Trustees. He attended his first meeting this April at In Sight Live in Kathmandu, where global eye health leaders united to collaborate on improving vision care worldwide. In this role, Dr. Blaikie will represent Arclight and support IAPB’s mission to end avoidable blindness. |

Dr. Gladys Atto |
is the first ophthalmologist to serve Uganda’s Karamoja region, leading eye care across nine districts from Moroto Regional Referral Hospital. Inspired by the urgent need in rural communities, she shifted from psychiatry to ophthalmology to help restore vision. In a recent conversation with KnowTheGlow, she shared how she raises awareness through local languages and outreach in a region with low literacy and limited access to care. Her patient-first approach reflects the power of compassion and persistence in transforming lives. |

Genetic Screening & Retinoblastoma: A New Frontier in Early Detection |
KnowTheGlow recently spoke with Dr. Wendy Chung, principal investigator of the GUARDIAN Study, and genetic counselor Rachel Klein about the GUARDIAN Study, a groundbreaking effort expanding newborn screening from 50 to over 450 rare genetic conditions—including retinoblastoma (RB). Early results show 92% of positive cases involved conditions not currently screened, paving the way for earlier diagnosis and life-saving care. |

She recommends exams starting at 6 months, with annual follow-ups to catch issues early. |

Introducing Dr. Okonokhua Oziengbe: Advocating for Early Pediatric Cancer Detection in Nigeria |
Dr. Okonokhua Oziengbe, known as Dr. Ozy, is an optometrist and advocate for pediatric cancer awareness in Nigeria. Through his work with the Okapi Children’s Cancer Foundation, he led efforts to improve eye health and cancer care for children, including the creation of a 20-bed pediatric cancer ward at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital. |
